Rising sign explained: the first impression written in your chart

If your sun sign is who you are becoming, your rising sign is the doorway people walk through to reach you. It is the zodiac sign that was rising over the eastern horizon at the moment you were born.
Why it changes so fast
The earth rotates once a day, so the ascendant moves through all twelve signs in roughly twenty-four hours — about two hours per sign. That is why an accurate birth time changes a chart so dramatically.
Rising sign versus sun sign versus moon sign
- Sun — identity, vitality, the direction you grow toward.
- Moon — emotional world, comfort, instinctive reactions.
- Rising — presentation, first impressions, how you approach new situations.
Working with your ascendant
The ascendant also sets the layout of your houses, which means it quietly reorganises the whole chart. Reading it first tends to make everything else easier to interpret.
